A positive sense of self is one of the greatest gifts you can give your child. But, we all know it is not always that simple. Why not? There are a million and one reasons and I am sure they are running around your mind right now.

We as parents and adults really need to learn how to speak to our children. Yes I said LEARN and then train ourselves to use that language in our everyday lives.

As an educator and leader within a school we work constantly with our staff on self-esteem and mindset.

Because teachers play an important role in nurturing a student's sense of dignity and self-worth. Imagine if this was continued at home and in the community.

I'm talking about real praise. Praise that is sincere, specific to the task or achievement

There is so much research out there on the topic of Mindset. If you would like to delve further into some reading or clips may I suggest the work of Carol Dweck

For if your child understands about fixed and growth mindset, that making mistakes of OK and the learning pit they will be well on their way to becoming independent learners. By this I mean a child that is capable of using the strategies they are taught to achieve success.

This doesn't make sense.....YET

Using strategies like “The Power of Yet” to obtain deeper understanding of the material can create useful habits and increased confidence with your child. We begin all of this when children enter Kindergarten, just imagine if they came to school already with thus 'have a go' attitude. I truly believe that strategies such as this can assist to prepares our children for the future.
